This detangling spray is really not for Luna or me
"The Refresh Coat Conditioning Spray was recommended by my dog's groomer whose opinion I highly value after 15 years, so I purchased a bottle rather than the leave in cream as I was concernedthe cream could be too heavy. Luna is a Shih Tzu x with tough thick wavy hair. She's only small at 6. 5 kg. The Cons: I really dislike the width of the spraying area as the nozzle is not adjustable, so with small dogs it covers more of the surface the dog is standing/sitting on (usually my bed) rather than on the dog itself. Its worse when spraying small areas such as legs, ears tail or head. I fund this wasteful. Now I spray on the brush, but find this is less effective, especially with mattered ears/tail. Its also the most expensive detangling spray I've bought in 35+ years of dog grooming. The spray causes Luna's hair to become thicker, its not frizzy nor sticky exactly, honestly, I don't know how to explain it, but it feels unpleasant, like its too full of product even when using sparingly. And directions say to use generously. I have never seen a detangling spray do this B4. I thought the groomers weren't drying her ears & tail properly allowing it to partial air dry which makes her hair go thicker & curlier, making it harder to groom & easier to tangle, but realised this was not the case when I purchased the spray & used it myself. I don't like patting her after she's been groomed or brushed & we used to love to play after both events. Her hair just doesn't feel good. Her coat is no longer as shiny as other sprays our groomer or myself have used, the whites aren't as bright & the black & greys seem dull. I'll return the product tomorrow so the girls can use it on orher dogs, there's no point wasting a full bottle. And I'll ask them to use something else on Luna. And unfortunately I find the Lemon Myrtle, Citrus & Avacardo fragrance way too overpowering for one who suffers from migraines. And it really hangs about. I have a food intolerance to eating/drinking citrus, but never had an issue with aromas of cleaning products or essential oils. Perhaps a different fragrance would be better like the Rose or Lavender? But there was only the 2 in stock (detangling spray or cream, but many other M. N. products in the range). Do all Melanie Newman detangling sprays have the same feel & texture? I'll have to ask. The Pros: I love that it comes packed full of natural ingredients that are kind to our pets skin & fur/hair. Melanie Newman's packaging looks professional & is attractive to the eye. I like that the bottle can be locked so the spray won't leak if knocked over or the trigger is accidentally pushed. If you have a large dog 15kg+ or more the spray diameter would be brilliant, but not so for little dogs. Perhaps this could be rectified? In conclusion In saying all this, I have seen other dogs coats in our salon look absolutely gorgeous although I don't know which products were used. But know The Hairy Hound uses Melanie Newman products, recommends & sell them"
